Good morning!
This is the band I was talking about in Jazz Band yesterday. Groove Pie! Enjoy and have a great weekend!
Happy New Year!
I hope you are all well and having a great break. The Holidays are such a beautiful time with family and friends. We have so much to be thankful for. However, 2016 was a year that we have lost so many great artists. Especially ones that were special to me as I was growing up (not that I am grown up now...) and I would like to highlight a few.
Leonard Cohen: Singer/Songwriter and poet. His songs are deep, emotional, and heartfelt. Here is a tune from his last CD that came out earlier this year...
We also lost Prince, David Bowie, Leon Russell, George Martin, Florence Henderson, Gene Wilder, and just yesterday... George Michael. Many others left us this year, but also left us part of their soul in their art for all of us to cherish forever.
Every year my family purchases 2 or 3 new Holiday CD's to celebrate the new year. One of the albums we purchased last year was by Sharon Jones, who we have also lost. I would like to end this post with a holiday song by her, displayed with creative animation. Peace and love to you all...
What a great start to the year! All the Bands and lessons are in full swing and it is so wonderful to see so many happy faces in school. Please take some time to review my website that contains everything you need to know about how the instrumental music program works at Black River Middle School.
On a side note, during the summer I heard the following song (attached below). The arrangement, lyrics, and simplicity struck a warm chord in my soul. I hope you enjoy the song as much as I do. I look forward to posting in my following blogs about what the students are doing in school and how much fun we are having! See you at "Back to School Night" next week! I love the "Tiny Desk Concerts!"
I would love to share this "Tiny Desk Concert" I listened to this morning. NPR hosts these awesome concerts with so many genres, artists, and upcoming talent. I encourage you to listen and enjoy this concert and all of them!
Happy Summer Awesome Ones!
Hello everyone, I hope your summer is going well.
I just thought I would share this video on "Sound" and the part it plays in our lives. Ok, I am off to listen to more birds... I am sitting here creating a new webpage for the band and listening/watching the "Tiny Desk Concerts" to my side. These awesome players from Romania come on and I have to stop everything! I mean stop... And to my brass students, let's do the first piece on the winter concert? Enjoy! Just watched this video of a Beatboxer, Ted Thum. Amazing use of the voice. Enjoy! Papa, How do you like your new iPad? I used this video in our presentation at the "School to Watch" convention in Washington DC this past week.
We have to remember that technology is a tool that we must use correctly. Enjoy! Happy New Year! I am sorry that I have been behind on my Blog posts. The end of the year was busy and demanding on all of us. 2013 will surely bring in a "New Beginning" and Joy to us all. I would like to thank all the students for a GREAT concert! All of the students rose to the occasion and performed with pride and skill. I am very proud! I have been especially amazed at the huge increase in students moving up the "Levels." Everytime someone goes up, I feel a great sense of pride and satisfaction. I really love seeing the students get better as well-rounded musicians. Finally, I would like to share this cool video about Music Intervals. If you happen to know anything about music theory...you will love this! I could not stop laughing. Peace, Love and Happiness to you all. Happy New Year! |
